Claiming a product is sustainable is easy, and false claims of product origination are a legitimate concern. We incorporated sustainability into our brand not long after identifying that a publicly traded customer had left us to partner with a trading company from a lower-cost region of China where it’s common for families to farm by day and machine bearing rings from low-quality steel in their homes at night. Despite a strong sustainability focus conveyed to their shareholders, and while concern for the greater good is not limited to financial risk, the lack of upstream visibility putting shareholders at risk was striking. We believe in the adage, “trust but verify.” In addition to the proof of product performance, our ESG-audited and responsible supply chain is fully transparent to our customers.
