Learn About Sustainability

Partner for procurement.

Procurement organizations are looking for suppliers who can partner over the longer term to sustainably source high quality “right fit” components, provide transparency into the supply chain and inventory, minimize lead times, and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).

Find Procurement Solutions

Driven by innovation.

With more than 2000 custom designs in our production portfolio, in addition to all ISO/ABMA standard bearing designs, OMCO SUMO is well suited to advise on sourcing standard bearings, build or improve upon existing specifications, or design new solutions or assemblies from scratch. We’re constantly learning, expanding, and improving our capabilities, which is why we remain at the forefront of motion innovation and responsible sourcing.

Partner For Procurement

Sustainable solutions that are the “right fit” for the application.

OMCO SUMO understands procurement professionals today are looking for solutions with sustainability and total cost to the company (TCO) in mind, not just initial product cost. Our goal is to be transparent and tailor fit your procurement process. We are a partner for the long term, with continuous improvement and shared goals for innovation, sustainability, and cost.

More than 60 Years of Experience

OMCO SUMO was established in 1964 as Oconomowoc Manufacturing Corporation, initially providing custom bearing solutions to the midwestern-based fenestration (door and window) industry. The Potawatomi name that challenged customers pronunciation for decades was derived from the eponymous southeastern Wisconsin city where we remain conveniently located 35 miles west of Milwaukee, long known as “the machine shop to the world.”

Application-Specific Solutions

Our products are designed and manufactured to meet unique and demanding application requirements such as; size, shape, material, clearance, noise, capacity, contamination prevention, temperature, lubrication, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic characteristics.

Sustainably Sourced

OMCO SUMO is the first and only provider of proprietary ESG ratings within the bearing and conveyor industry, covering an extensive network of manufacturers throughout Asia that provide high-quality lower-cost products that often share the same supply chain with well-known premium brands without the accompanying overhead.

Senior-Level Network in China

OMCO Sustainable Motion has been building close partnerships and sustainable sourcing throughout Asia for decades. Our on the ground presence and access to senior management allows us to collect detailed information about the ESG footprint and activity at hundreds of bearing and subcontracted component factories, notable brands they supply, as well as listing all local certifications.

Trade Accreditation

OMCO SUMO is a manufacturing member of the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) – the voice of the conveyor industry in the Americas. CEMA works closely with other organizations, such as the Material Handling Industry of America and the Association of Rubber Products Manufacturers, with a shared interest in materials handling, voluntary standards, and business in general. CEMA also maintains contact with government agencies whose activities concern the conveyor equipment industry, keeping a finger on the pulse of federal legislation and regulations affecting the industry.

Our Process

The right-fit for each and every application.

With our extensive design and manufacturing experience and global sourcing partnerships, we can help you sustainably source standard products, build or improve upon existing specifications, or to design from scratch. We often are able to incorporate high-volume, low-cost and well-proven standard components into a new finished assembly. Often we start with a print or product specification from engineering, and ultimately deliver a just-in-time inventory solution that meets the needs of procurement and product management.

From standard products to custom assemblies and components

OMCO SUMO has over 2,000 custom bearings in our production portfolio, in addition to countless related assemblies and components. We have been awarded nine domestic and international patents, with additional international patents pending. Our engineering services include parametric modeling; reverse engineering, FMEA, metallurgical and composite analysis; rapid prototyping, product life testing, proof and tensile testing, and PPAP.

Well-established global fulfillment operations.

OMCO SUMO engineers and manufacturers many of the products we provide. We maintain cost-effective dedicated offshore facilities and staff in Zhejiang, China who we’ve worked with for two decades. Similar long-term partnerships are well established throughout China, Taiwan and India. We maintain precision-machining capabilities at our facility in Wisconsin, as well as a comprehensive Q&A laboratory including state-of-the-art vision inspection and an experienced production staff.

From simple to complex, both in the USA and Offshore.

Our Wisconsin plant operates numerous automated assembly presses that each allow for the realization of thousands of assemblies per hour using as little as fractional time of skilled assembly operators. Our experienced production teams also assemble larger or more complicated products such as conveyor chain.

We work with your procurement process

Especially in today’s unpredictable trade climate, OMCO SUMO’s redundant capacity and flexible efficiency from domestic manufacturing and assembly provides cost, quality, and delivery assurance that middlemen who live and die on “me-too” simply cannot. We understand procurement and the importance of planned, reliable fulfillment, and provide numerous value-added services.

Top Five Mistakes Bearing Buyers (Unknowingly) Make to Cut Costs

There’s no question that value should be among the top criteria OEMs consider when purchasing bearings for their applications. While a broad range of high quality options exist below the premium threshold, the point of diminishing returns is difficult to identify. If suppliers are continuously pressed for lower prices, the resulting savings eventually accompany trade-offs […]
